The Ships

Watch the
river work.

The St. Johns River is one of Florida's great working waterways, and Sandollar sits right on its channel. All day long, cargo ships and cruise vessels glide past the deck — close enough to read the names on their bows.

Ship on the St. Johns River

A working river

Freighters, auto carriers & container ships.

JAXPORT is one of the busiest ports on the East Coast, and the St. Johns carries it all inland — towering container vessels, roll-on/roll-off auto carriers stacked with new cars, and heavy bulk freighters riding low in the water. They pass within a few hundred yards of our railing, moving slow and silent against the current.

Pull up a chair, order a round, and watch the river do what it's done for a century — move the world's goods right past your table.

Cruise ship departing Jacksonville

Wave them off

Cruise ships that turn in the river.

Twice a week in season, a cruise ship backs out of JAXPORT and swings around in the St. Johns just offshore — horns blaring, lights blazing, passengers lining the rails. If your people are aboard the Carnival Elation or the Norwegian Dawn, this is where you come to see them off. It's close, it's loud, and it's unforgettable.

Sail away from Sandollar

The ships you can watch.

Two cruise lines home-port right here on the St. Johns. Book a sailing, then join us on the deck to wave them off.
